It sounds a bit like a fairy tale, but long ago, self-care was once seen as a necessary aspect of human life that was supported by our societal and cultural norms. But with the rise of industrialization, focus shifted from living life according to the rhythms of nature to one of productivity, where your worth seemed to be attributed to your degree of “busyness.” Very quickly a stigma was born and self-care became a luxury or a selfish indulgence.

In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of self-care for overall well-being, mental health, and productivity. However, remnants of the stigma still exist, fueled by societal expectations, cultural beliefs, and the pressure to always be productive and selfless.
Addressing and breaking the stigma requires ongoing efforts to challenge these deeply ingrained beliefs and promote a more holistic understanding of self-care. It involves promoting education, awareness, and a shift in societal attitudes towards self-care as a necessary and beneficial practice for overall well-being.
It is easy to overlook the importance of self-care. However, taking care of your mind, body, and spirit is essential for achieving balance, inner peace, and overall well-being. By adopting a holistic approach, you'll be able to achieve overall well-being and tap into your true potential.

There are billions of people on the planet. Each one has unique needs and likes. The beauty of holistic self-care is that it can be tailored to YOU. There is no one right or wrong way to nurture your mind, body, and spirit. It is all about experimentation and finding what works best for you. From Juice Therapy to Reiki, Aromatherapy, Breathwork, Sound Healing, Meditation, and Yoga, each modality offers unique benefits and can be incorporated into your daily life.
Juice Therapy involves the practice of consuming extracted juice from fresh fruits and vegetables. This practice floods your body with essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. These nutrients are vital for supporting your immune system, promoting cellular function, boosting your energy levels, and maintaining optimal health.
Reiki is well known for its ability to promote relaxation and reduce stress. Reiki can be experienced through a trained practitioner or you can trained to perform it on yourself. Reiki can help to balance the body’s energy and activate the body’s natural healing response. It can help you release emotional blockages, promote emotional balance and support mental clarity. Reiki can enhance self-awareness, mindfulness, and emotional resilience, allowing you to navigate life’s challenges with greater ease.
Aromatherapy utilizes the therapeutic properties of essential oils to promote relaxation, reduce stress, boost your mood, increase your energy levels, and promote a positive mindset. Topical and inhalation methods are best at helping you achieve emotional balance and enhance your overall sense of well-being.
Breathwork practices (or conscious breathing) can vary in intensity and complexity and depending on which practice you choose, your can have different results. Primarily, breathwork practices can reduce your stress levels, promote a sense of relaxation, increase your energy, and promote vitality. By consciously manipulating your breath, you increase oxygenation of your blood and improve blood circulation. There are contraindications- important health conditions that should avoid certain types of breathwork. It is best to practice this one under the guidance of a trained practitioner.
Sound Healing utilizes various instruments such as singing bowls, tuning forks, drums, gongs, and chimes among others to create soothing and harmonious sounds that promote relaxation, stress reduction, and enhancing your mood. By inducing a deep state of relaxation, you mind calms, brainwave activity smooths and you can experience a sense of inner tranquility and peace. You can chose to listen to your favorite tracks, play the instruments yourself, or experience a total body emersion via a sound bath.
Meditation is a game changer in my opinion. It requires consistency and patience in order to achieve lasting results. There are numerous techniques to choose from and with a consistent practice, you can improve self awareness, promote a more positive outlook, increase overall feelings of happiness and contentment, improve cognitive function and memory, and improve your decision making skills. All it takes is a few minutes a day to start and you can increase your time with a little patience and practice.
Yoga has become my newest obsession and the benefits are numerous. Aside from the obvious benefits to the physical body, it also helps with body awareness, anxiety, mental clarity, attention span, sleep, and weight management. Its important to realize that yoga is more than “just stretching” you actually work up a sweat! Start with beginner-friendly classes and gradually build up as you develop a daily practice. There are many different styles so don’t be afraid or discouraged if you try something and don’t like it right away. The key is to keep trying!
Once you find a couple of self-care practices that you enjoy, you want to start to create a morning and/or evening routine, setting intentions, finding sacred spaces, and establishing self-care rituals/routines. These practices will help you maintain balance, inner peace, and overall well-being amidst your busy schedule and help you keep accountable to yourself.
Embarking on a spiritual journey can often feel lonely, especially in the beginning, but it doesn't have to be. Connect with a like-minded community and find support on your path to spiritual growth is crucial for your success. From joining local wellness groups to participating in online forums or workshops, creating connections with others who share similar interests can provide guidance, inspiration, and a sense of belonging.
